Charity tournament 2012
We beat our fundraising record again at our 2012 charity tournament, raising more than £1,200 for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity and Rethink Mental Illness.
More than 20 club members took part in the traditional summer event, which saw players donning fancy dress to take each other on in a six-a-side competition. Inspired by the arrival of the torch and the forthcoming Olympic Games the event this year had an international flavour with teams turning out in colourful costumes to represent Brazil, Germany and New Zealand - including Maori warriors performing a pre-match Haka!
Despite the weather friends and family turned out to cheer the teams on and a cake sale and raffle were also held, with prizes donated by games company Sumo Digital and The Workshop. The tournament took place at Sheffield Hallam’s Collegiate Campus with Sport Hallam providing the use of the pitch for free.
The impressive fundraising total was given a huge boost by the sale of specially designed team t-shirts. The sale, which added almost £300 to the total, was made possible thanks to the generous support of Rotherham-based print company a-print who provided the t-shirts.
